Tree dedicated to fallen hero

A memorial tree honoring “the life and supreme sacrifice” of Calvert Hall College High School, Towson, 1994 graduate E. Austin Koth was dedicated on campus May 10. Mr. Koth, a U.S. Navy Petty Officer Second Class, was killed July 26, 2006, in Iraq at age 30. The Japanese Snowbell tree was planted in the landscape of George Young Hall with a dedication plaque and an American flag placed in the ground. About 100 guests, Mr. Koth’s friends and family and Calvert Hall faculty and staff, attended the ceremony and reception. The tree, which flowers May through September, was a gift from the officer’s friends and was planted directly next to the door of the school’s swimming pool; swimming was Mr. Koth’s sport.
