Statement on the death of Bishop James T. McHugh

With God’s people in the Diocese of Rockville Centre I mourn the passing of Bishop James T. McHugh. On behalf of those who work to defend and promote the cause of human life everywhere I express deepest appreciation for his prophetic, wise and most generous efforts on behalf of the most vulnerable in our society. In this country, in Rome, and at meetings throughout the world Bishop McHugh consistently and vigorously advanced the Gospel of life. We shall miss his vision and his voice. May he rejoice in the eternal kingdom where life reaches perfection in the divine embrace.
