St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School receives large grant

The Marion I & Henry J. Knott Foundation recently awarded St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School with a $23,000 grant, which will support the Hampden school’s art program this coming school year.

“As a result of this grant, we have been able to hire an excellent art teacher, Ms. Kristina Steg, who comes to us from St. Mary’s Govans,” St. Thomas principal Sister Marie Rose Gustatus wrote in a letter to the foundation. “Ms. Steg is a highly qualified teacher who presented an outstanding portfolio of student work and art projects. We are thrilled that she will be joining our staff in late August. In addition to this, with your grant, we will be able to purchase new art supplies for both semesters.”

The School Sister of Notre Dame went on to say her school appreciated the support of the foundation and invited representatives to visit the school.

Good news has been regularly occurring at St. Thomas Aquinas. Earlier this spring, a student there won the statewide handwriting competition.
