By Catholic Review Staff

In honor of the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals, more than a dozen parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Baltimore held pet blessings Oct. 4 with many others slated to bless animals Oct. 5 or the days following.

St. Francis of Assisi Church in Baltimore held a blessing Oct. 4 at 10 a.m. in Herring Run Park adjacent to the parish. Pets blessed by the pastor, Monsignor William F. Burke, included many cats and dogs as well as a gecko, bird and turtle.
