I’ve detected a number of typographical errors in The Catholic Review and other periodicals over the years. To date, all I’ve done is collect them, but the latest one in your “Back to School” section (CR, Aug. 9) prompted me to write. The headline of the article on page 22 read “Longtime friends inseperable.” That it was in your education section is probably fitting. As an ex-editor of a medical journal and father of four, I’m acutely aware of the failure of teachers to emphasize correct spelling during the past few decades. Although Spellcheck isn’t foolproof since it doesn’t take context into account, it would have helped in this case.
