Sister Michael Marie Fitzpatrick, S.S.N.D.

A funeral Mass for Sister Michael Marie Fitzpatrick, S.S.N.D., was offered July 6 at Villa Notre Dame in Wilton, Conn. Sister died on July 2; she was 84.

Margaret Estelle Fitzpatrick was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and first met the School Sisters of Notre Dame when she attended St. Savior High School in Brooklyn.

After graduating from the College of Saint Elizabeth in Morristown, N.J., in 1944, she entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame Candidature in Baltimore in 1946. She entered the novitiate the following year, and became Sister Michael Marie Fitzpatrick. Sister Michael Marie was professed August 3, 1948, and celebrated her 60th anniversary of profession-her diamond jubilee-this year.

Sister Michael Marie taught for nearly 25 years which included St. Maria Goretti High School, Hagerstown, from 1961-1967, and The Institute of Notre Dame in Baltimore where she taught until 1970. Having earned her master’s degree in religious education, Sister Michael spent time in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Sister Michael Marie moved to Villa Notre Dame in Wilton in 2002.
