Sister Mary Margherita Sauble, S.S.N.D., dies

A funeral Mass for School Sister of Notre Dame Mary Margherita Sauble was offered July 20 at the chapel at Villa Assumpta in Towson. Sister Mary Margherita died July 16. She was 80-years-old and had been a sister for 57 years.

A native of Westminster, Sister Mary Margherita professed first vows in 1955.

She taught at Our Lady of Good Counsel from 1953 to 1955 and at St. Thomas Aquinas from 1963 to 1972, both in Baltimore.

Sister Mary Margherita then pursued a nursing career. She studied nursing at South Baltimore General Hospital School of Nursing. She was a licensed practical nurse at Villa Maria, the former nursing home of the Schools Sisters of Notre Dame in Glen Arm.

She served the religious order after the Maria Health Care Center was founded as the order’s nursing facility in Baltimore and worked there until she retired in 2007.

In retirement, Sister Mary Margherita volunteered at Our Lady of Hope in Dundalk where she had lived for 20 years. She moved to Villa Assumpta in 2010.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in education in 1968 from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland in Baltimore and a certificate in licensed practical nursing in 1975 from South Baltimore General Hospital School of Nursing.
