Sister Mary Lanahan, S.N.D. de N.

Sister Mary Lanahan, S.N.D. de N., died at Peninsula Medical Center in Salisbury May 23 from congestive heart failure. Sr. Mary was 73 years of age and had lived 55 of her years in the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Born Margaret William in Pennsylvania, Sister Mary began and ended her active ministry at Maryvale Preparatory School in Brooklandville – first as a primary school teacher and later as plant manager. As plant manager, she was instrumental in maintaining the school’s historic castle building.

Sister Mary also taught at Trinity School in Ellicott City and other schools in New York and Pennsylvania and served on the board of the Julie Community Center in Baltimore. For nearly 10 years, Sister Mary ministered in Ocean City.

She donated her body to science.
