Sister Marilyn Spellman, S.U.S.C., dies

Holy Union Sister Marilyn Spellman, who served in Baltimore, died March 11. She was 81.
A funeral Mass was offered March 14 in Astoria, N.Y.
In the Archdiocese of Baltimore, Sister Marilyn was an administrative assistant and social justice educator at St. Louis Parish in Clarksville. From 1995 to 2010, she was special assistant to the director of Baltimore-based Catholic Relief Services. In retirement, the continued to volunteer at St. Leo the Great Parish in Little Italy.
A New York native, Sister Marilyn earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Fordham University and a master’s degree in administration from Bridgewater State University in Massachusetts. She was provincial of the former Fall River Province of the Holy Union Sisters and was a member of her order’s General Council in Rome from 1987 to 1993. Sister Marilyn also served in schools in New York and Massachusetts.
