A funeral Mass was offered for Sister Marie Joyce O’Keefe, O.S.F., on Nov. 29 at Assisi House in Aston, Pa. Sister Marie Joyce died on Nov. 23; she was 89.
A professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 69 years, Sister Marie Joyce spent 64 of them in Baltimore. A native of Ireland, she earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg and a master’s degree in religion from St. Bonaventure University in New York. She taught at Shrine of the Little Flower School, Baltimore; St. Katharine School, Baltimore; Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, Essex and The Catholic High School of Baltimore. She also served as the provincial of the former St. Joseph Province.
