Sister Bernice McCourt served Linthicum parish

A funeral Mass for Sister Bernice McCourt, of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, was offered April 1 at Villa Julie, the sisters’ residence in Stevenson. Formerly known as Sister Ann Bernard, she died March 28.

Sister Bernice served as the director of religious education at St. Philip Neri Parish in Linthicum from 1971 to 1983.

Before that, she taught in parish schools in the Archdiocese of Baltimore, and in Washington, D.C., North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

From 1983 to 1996 Sister Bernice was minister of religious education and pastoral associate at St. Therese in Chesapeake, Va. From 1996 to 2005, she was the pastoral coordinator of St. Mary in Chesapeake, Va.

Sister Bernice earned a bachelor’s degree in education Trinity College in Washington, D.C., and a master’s degree in religious education with a specialty in Liturgy and Scripture from La Salle University in Philadelphia, Pa.
Interment was held at the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur Cemetery in Ilchester.
