Support for Pregnancy Loss

Set up a Book of the Innocents.

A Book of the Innocents will be provided to any parish that wishes to minister to peri-natal and child loss.  The book is placed in the church, perhaps in front of Our Lady and is a simple way to help those that have suffered losses from an abortion, miscarriage, stillbirth, or death of a child (they write the name of their child in memoriam and, if desired, a brief thought about him or her).  Please contact the Respect Life Office if you need a Book of the Innocents for your parish.

Plan a Memorial Service for those who have lost children, born or unborn

This is designed to meet the needs of parents whose child(ren) died because of miscarriage, accident or abortion. The ritual emphasizes the Church’s respect for the sacredness of all human life from the moment of conception – regardless of a child’s age or stage of development.  It acknowledges that all life, even the lives of those who are never born, impacts families and individuals. It also helps bring peaceful closure after a great loss. Besides the candle lighting ceremony, the memorial service can also include music, readings, prayers, a reflection, and a small memento for the guests.  A simple reception following the service is also appreciated by the families.
