Pro-life events to be held in March

The 32nd annual Maryland March for Life will be held March 14, beginning with prayer at St. Mary in Annapolis and ending with a rally at Susan Campbell Park-City Dock.

Archbishop Edwin F. O’Brien will celebrate a 5:15 p.m. Mass at St. Mary prior to the march and a nondenominational service will also be offered concurrently in the hall. Bishop Denis J. Madden will be present with three auxiliary bishops from the Washington archdiocese.

The focus of this year’s march will be on passing a bill to better regulate Maryland’s abortion clinics.

This year’s featured speakers include Matt Birk, center for the Baltimore Ravens; David Bereit of 40 Days for Life; David Frye, senior evangelist of Severn Christian Church; Cathy McLeod of Maryland Right to Life; and Mike Martelli of the Maryland Coalition for Life.

A bus will leave from Immaculate Conception in Towson at 4 p.m. For seat reservations, e-mail Marcie Towle at marci@mediadimensions.com.

In a related effort, St. Agnes in Catonsville will kick off the annual 40 Days for Life campaign with a March 10 event beginning at 7 p.m. Father Michael DeAscanis, pastor of St. Agnes and St. William of York in Baltimore, will lead a prayer service and Martelli will give the keynote presentation about 40 Days for Life, a campaign focused on prayer, fasting and peaceful vigils to end abortion. Rev. Terry Sweeney, pastor of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Catonsville, will lead the closing prayer.
