Archdiocese of Baltimore Names Principal of the New Mother Mary Lange Catholic School

Chancellor of Education, Mr. James Sellinger, and Superintendent of Catholic Schools, Dr. Donna Hargens, of the Archdiocese of Baltimore announced today the appointment of Mrs. Alisha Jordan as the principal of the new Mother Mary Lange Catholic School in downtown Baltimore.   She will begin her position in August in preparation for the opening of the new school in September of 2021.

Mrs. Jordan comes to the position with a wealth of experience and training as a school administrator, and will complete a doctoral degree in education this year at Morgan State University, with a focus on Urban Educational Leadership.  She served most recently as principal of St. Mary of the Mills School in Laurel, MD, as well as at John Paul Regional Catholic School in Baltimore County.  She has also held teaching and administrative positions in Baltimore County public schools and at St. Bernardine Catholic School, where she and her family are current parishioners.

Mother Mary Lange Catholic School, located on Martin Luther King Drive, is the first new archdiocesan school to be built in Baltimore City in nearly 60 years.  The state-of-the art facility will serve close to 500 Pre-K3 through 8^th grade students from the surrounding neighborhoods, and will be the new home for students currently attending Saints James & John and Holy Angels Catholic schools.  In developing plans for the new school, the Archdiocese has worked closely with local community associations, the Southwest Partnership, and other neighboring institutions including the University of Maryland Baltimore and the University of Maryland Biopark.

Mother Mary Lange founded St. Frances Academy in Baltimore in 1828 to educate children of color at a time when there were few opportunities for them to attend school.  St. Frances Academy is the oldest continuously operating school for Black Catholic children in the United States.
