Poverty article questioned

The Catholic News Service article “For U.S. Hispanics, poverty is growing with little relief ahead” (CR, Oct. 13) opened up a can of worms.

Natalie Geraldo had a job that paid $11 an hour, $21,120 a year. She resigns the paying job, has herself a live-in boyfriend and a six-week-old baby. The baby will bring in more money.

I once worked for 25 cents an hour, in a 48-hour week earning $12. I was lucky to have this job or I would not have been eating. No one ever took me to a food pantry.
