St. Michael Parish in Poplar Springs/Mt. Airy

St. Michael Parish in Poplar Springs/Mt. Airy celebrated the completion of their pastoral plan with their parish community on November 17, 2023. They have already begun to implement the plan under the leadership of Fr. Paul Sparklin, who began as pastor in July of 2022 and who worked alongside the planning committee who had begun this final process of developing the plan in April of 2021 with facilitation by the Office of Parish Renewal.

Their Mission to “Know Jesus, Love Jesus, and Share Jesus” will be enacted as they are focusing their first year of implementation on the core mission priorities of Liturgy, Welcome and Encounter.

Liturgy – They hope to provide mystagogy and reflection on sacraments, support vocations and enhance the beauty of their worship space.
Welcome – The Parish will create and staff a welcome desk and review and update their campus signage. They also plan a follow up with all inquiries and will reach out to those who are not currently receiving Holy Communion.
Encounter – The parish will form small groups, send out pastoral visitors, continue their mission and service work and build a culture of prayer in the parish.
