Mercy cheerleaders take top honors at Christmas Parade

There are no “do-overs” when it comes to cheerleading competitions. But the varsity and junior varsity cheerleading teams from Mercy High School didn’t need any on Dec. 2 at the Mayor’s Annual Christmas Parade in Hampden as the two Magic squads placed first in the parade’s cheerleading competition.

A trophy honoring this accomplishment will arrive at the school this week.

Under the leadership of senior varsity captains Julie Robinson and Jess Moran, all 25 fired-up cheerleaders marched, chanted and even sang Christmas carols as they paraded down Falls Road and into the heart of Hampden. An on-again, off-again afternoon rain kept the route slick, but did little to dampen the team’s spirit.
