Maryland Province announces new Jesuit leadership

New Jesuit leaders begin their six-year terms of office in the Maryland Province July 31, the feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus.

Father James Shea, S.J., until recently the pastor of Holy Trinity Parish in Georgetown, Washington, D.C., begins as provincial. He succeeds Father Timothy Brown, S.J., who will return to Loyola College in Maryland as associate professor of business law and ethics.

Father James Casciotti, S.J., who was pastor of St. Ignatius Church in Baltimore, will be the socius, the province’s executive assistant. This is Father Casciotti’s second term as socius. He will succeed Father William Watters, S.J. Father Watters will remain on the staff for two months to assist the new leadership team before being given another assignment.
