Homily Reflections – Respect Life Sunday

Isaiah 5:1-7 The vineyard of the Lord of hosts is the house of Israel

Philippians 4:6-9 Do these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

Matthew 21:33-43 He will leave his vineyard to other tenants

Like a fine vintner, God plants the seed of life in the vineyard of our lives. In our mother’s wombs, he made each of us to grow – lives conceived in the mystery of God’s infinite love and the wonder of the love of man and wife, which struggles to reflect that infinite love. God plants the seed. And then what happens? Is there a fruitful harvest?

So often, the opposite is true. The vineyards of our lives produce the wild grapes of selfishness, of fear, and of pleasure. These bloom in the morning and fade with the noonday sun. When we fail to realize that God is the Creator and the owner of the vineyard out lives become empty of meaning and fruitless.
