Father Wolfgang Bruno Mimms, O.SS.T

A funeral Mass was offered for Father Wolfgang Bruno Mimms, O.SS.T., on Jan. 3 at Holy Trinity Monastery in Pikesville. Father Mimms died on Jan. 2 after a lengthy illness. He was 82.

He was ordained a priest at Subiaco Abbey in Arkansas in 1970, and the abbot noted he was the first black priest to be ordained at the abbey. The Trinitarian made his solemn profession of vows April 24, 1980 at Holy Trinity Monastery in Pikesville. During his time with the Trinitarians, Father Wolfgang lived in residence at St. Ann’s in Bristol, PA, and Holy Trinity Monastery.

Father Mimms, who was remembered for his dedication to pastoral ministry, served in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Texas. He was in residence at the Trinitarian Provincialate Community in Pikesville from 1985-1987.
