Churches And Schools To Ring Bells To Welcome Pope

Archbishop Edwin F. O’Brien, Archbishop of Baltimore, has asked Catholic churches and schools in the Archdiocese of Baltimore to ring their bells 200 times on Tuesday, April 15 at 4 p.m. to welcome Pope Benedict XVI to the United States.

The number 200 was chosen to represent the Archdiocese’s Bicentennial Anniversary of its elevation to the rank of an archdiocese. The date and time coincide with the expected arrival time of the Holy Father at Andrews Air Force Base.

Archbishop O’Brien has also extended the invitation to Protestant churches in the region.

Media Note:The Cathedral of Mary our Queen on North Charles Street and the Baltimore Basilica downtown will both be participating–for stations looking for a confirmed location to shoot bells.
