Catholic Divorce Ministry offers support

By Catholic Review Staff
Separated and divorced Catholics looking for support can find it during a special conference set for June 21-22 at Our Lady of the Chesapeake, Lake Shore.
Sponsored by Catholic Divorce Ministry, the event will include leadership training June 21 and a June 22 conference with workshops covering topics such as spirituality, faith, parenting responsibilities and what parents need to support themselves.
“They (participants) meet other people, other Catholics in their same situation,” said Suzanne Carr, conference coordinator. “They meet people who have been separated or divorced longer and can tell stories about the struggles they had and let this person know they’re not alone, that other people have shared the same journey.”
The conference is a support system, she said.
“Hopefully they’ll (participants) go home relaxed, feeling better,” said Carr, who has been divorced for more than three decades. “There are people who have been through this and will help you through it. You come away stronger.”
The event’s title is, “Seasons of Life, Seasons of Change: Food for the Journey.” It is designed for Catholics and non-Catholics who are separated, divorced and those who minister to them.
