Blazers, Indians run past competition

The Notre Dame Preparatory School, Towson, Blazers placed first in the IAAM A Conference cross country championships on Oct. 31 at Oregon Ridge Park, Hunt Valley.

It was a perfect Halloween afternoon for more than 400 runners with temperatures ranging in the low 60s. As 24 teams placed their seven best runners on the varsity starting line, the stage was set for a showdown between The John Carroll School, Bel Air, and Notre Dame Prep.

True to their name, the Blazers ran a fast race and edged the Patriot favorites by 12 points with a final cumulative score of 62 to John Carroll’s 74.

The Prep’s top performers of the day were Jo Rubino (20:19), Liz Schiavone (20:25), Mary Bolgiano (20:32), Nicole Troiani (20:47), Sarah Lynagh (20:55) and senior captain Rosie Miola (21:14).
With the Blazers’ roster topping 70 runners, the team is close knit and packed full
of talent.

The Institute of Notre Dame, Baltimore, repeated its championships efforts by placing first in the IAAM B Conference by squeaking past top-favored Glenelg Country School by one point, 37-38 on Oct. 31 at Oregon Ridge Park.

The Indians were led by Sarah Steinmetz (19:43), Emma Rybczynski (20:34), Maddy Jackson (20:59), Julie Gessler (21:25), Abigail Gatch (21:55), Allison Buttner (25:06) and Shana Rochester (25:11).
