‘Blanket Baltimore’ drive helps spread warmth at Franciscan Center

By Catholic Review Staff

The Hyatt Regency Hotel in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor helped play Santa at the Franciscan Center Dec. 22, distributing  525 new, warm blankets collected in its Blanket Baltimore drive at the center’s annual Christmas celebration.

More than 15 members of the Hyatt staff were on hand to help hand out blankets, along with the Franciscan Center’s traditional gift bag that included a hat, gloves, scarf and full-size toiletry item. Franciscan Center guests also enjoyed a Christmas dinner of ham, sweet potatoes, macaroni and cheese and green beans.

Between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve 2015, the Hyatt pledged to collect and donate 1,000 new blankets of all sizes for men, women and children in need. The Franciscan Center is among several organizations to receive blankets collected in the Blanket Baltimore drive, launched on Thanksgiving weekend by the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.

The Franciscan Center partnered with the Hyatt in the project, along with Target, the Maryland Center for Veterans Education (MCVET) and New Vision House of Hope.

The Franciscan Center serves as many as 700 people daily, five days a week throughout the year. More than 98 percent of the center’s funding comes from private sources.
