William Harris Jr., president of the National Association of Holy Name Societies (NAHNS) and a parishioner of Our Lady of the Fields, Millersville, recently announced that Bishop Mitchell T. Rozanski has been named the new episcopal moderator for the association.
Harris noted that as episcopal moderator, Bishop Rozanski will offer encouragement and spiritual direction to the executive board of the society as members work to rebuild the NAHNS.
“The NAHNS is much like Holy Name Unions throughout the United States – in a state of transition as they replace graying societies with societies of a younger age membership,” Harris said.
Harris said that as vicar for Hispanic ministries in the Baltimore archdiocese, Bishop Rozanski will be able to provide both direction and encouragement to initiate a Spanish outreach program in the NAHNS.
Bishop Rozanski was helpful in establishing the first Hispanic Holy Name Society at St. Michael the Archangel in Overlea. He expects that within the next two years, the Baltimore Archdiocesan Holy Name Union will add at least three to four additional Hispanic Holy Name Societies, as well as several more in Holy Name Unions throughout the United States.
As episcopal moderator, Bishop Rozanski will offer spiritual guidance and encouragement to the society’s estimated 300,000 members and their families. His term of office is five years, and he will serve as the association’s liaison with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
