Archbishop Borders School, a Catholic elementary school in Baltimore’s Highlandtown community, celebrated the opening of the Ben Carson Reading Room on Friday, April 19, 2013 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Dr. Ben Carson prepared a personalized video message and his wife, Mrs. Candy Carson, presented opening remarks. Superintendent of Catholic Schools, Dr. Barbara Edmondson, provided also spoke, extending her gratitude to the Carsons for their commitment to childhood literacy.
The Ben Carson Reading Room is decorated with artwork based on Dr. Carson’s “Think Big” philosophy, which promotes outstanding achievement and dedication to helping others. The library collection includes over 500 high-interest books from a variety of genres, authors, and topics.
The Carson Scholars Fund selected Archbishop Borders School and worked with Bank of America to provide funding to create the Ben Carson Reading Room.
Archbishop Borders Catholic School, named for Archbishop William D. Borders, 13th Archbishop of Baltimore, offers a full-day Pre-K program and two-way language classes starting in Pre-K. They are one of 12 schools nationwide to participate in the Two-Way Immersion Network for Catholic Schools (TWIN-CS). The TWIN-CS is a program developed by Boston College and the National Catholic Educational Association.
