Baltimore Catholic School Principal Honored by Bank of America

Ms. LaUanah King-Cassell, principal of Ss. James & John School in East Baltimore for the past 27 years, has received the Bank of America Local Hero Award and a $5,000 grant, which she designated to the Archdiocese of Baltimore’s inner city scholarship program, Partners in Excellence. Bank of America’s Neighborhood Excellence Local Heroes program seeks to highlight individuals who have made a special and significant impact on individuals, families or the community at large, inspired others to volunteer for community service, and has been a catalyst for new visions understanding, and change in their community.

“Ms. King-Cassell is an inspiration to us all. Her tenure at St. James and John has blessed the community with a leader who is an example of lived-faith. Her work is a true ministry.” said Dr. Edmondson, Interim Superintendent of Catholic Schools.

The Archdiocese of Baltimore’s Partners in Excellence (PIE) program provides partial-scholarships to children from low-income families wishing to attend a Catholic School in Baltimore City. By the end of the current school year, the Archdiocese is expected to have distributed more than $1 million in tuition assistance to nearly 800 students through the Partners in Excellence scholarship program.
