Archbishop Lori among record Preakness crowd

By Catholic Review Staff

Archbishop William E. Lori was among the record crowd of 121,309 that attended the 137th Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course May 19. They saw a thrilling finish, as I’ll Have Another caught Bodemeister in the final lengths to keep alive his hopes for a Triple Crown.

Three days after he was installed as the 16th archbishop of Baltimore, Archbishop Lori visited the PNCBank tent in the infield, where he met Gov. Martin J. O’Malley and others.

On May 17, Archbishop Lori provided the invocation at the annual “Alibi Breakfast” for Preakness owners and trainers.
