Catholic Charities

The work of Catholic Charities in the United States was begun here by Archbishop John Carroll when he declared in 1792 that a portion of all parish revenues be set aside “for the relief of the poor.”

Catholic Charities has 80 programs throughout the archdiocese that touch the lives of 160,000 people and their families—children, seniors, people suffering from poverty, and those living with developmental disabilities. We cherish the Divine within everyone who comes to us for assistance. Our work is compassionately and efficiently done by 2,000 employees supported by 15,000 volunteers and 15,000 donors.

Inspired by the Gospel mandates to love, serve, and teach, Catholic Charities provides care and services to improve the lives of Marylanders in need.
