Prayer is that wonderful moment when we stop the busyness of life and take time to simply communicate with God. Prayer is as unique as each of us. It can be formal or informal. People pray in churches and adoration chapels. They pray in the quiet of their homes or while on vacation at the beach, and even while driving to work in their car. Because God is everywhere we can communicate with Him whenever we need to be closer to Him, no matter where we are.
Prayer has been an integral element of Christian faith from the moment Jesus responded to the disciples, who said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray just as John taught his disciples” (Luke 11:1). His response provided one of the most commonly-known and uttered prayers:
“Father, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come.
Give us each day our daily bread*
and forgive us our sins
for we ourselves forgive everyone in debt to us,
and do not subject us to the final test.” (Luke 11:2-4)
