Twenty Catholic high schools in the Archdiocese of Baltimore graduated a combined 2,298 seniors this spring. Details from each of the schools follow.
Archbishop Curley High School
Baltimore
A baccalaureate Mass was celebrated May 25 at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Baltimore and commencement exercises were held May 27 at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen in Homeland for 111 graduates. The commencement speaker was Bishop Denis J. Madden, auxiliary bishop of Baltimore. Matthew Borowy (page 20) was the valedictorian; Angelo Petruccy and Nicholas Menikheim were co-salutatorians.
Archbishop Spalding High School
Severn
A baccalaureate Mass and commencement exercises were held May 26 at the cathedral for 308 graduates. The commencement speaker was Mary Smith, a member of the class of 2016. First in class was Darla Lowe; second was Madeleine Bowcutt; and third was Darby Nisbett (page 25).
Bishop Walsh School
Cumberland
A baccalaureate Mass and commencement exercises were held May 27 at St. Patrick in Cumberland for 32 graduates. Maggie Mathews presented the welcome and Will DiNola delivered the commencement address. Both are members of the class of 2016.
Calvert Hall College High School
Towson
A baccalaureate Mass and commencement exercises were held June 4 at the cathedral for 284 graduates. The commencement speaker was Bishop Madden. Grant Epple was the valedictorian and Andrew Brannon the salutatorian.
The Catholic High School of Baltimore
A baccalaureate Mass and commencement exercises were held May 24 at the cathedral for 78 graduates. Sarah Perumattam was the valedictorian and Abigail Timmel the salutatorian.
Cristo Rey Jesuit High School
Baltimore
A baccalaureate Mass was to be celebrated June 16 at Holy Rosary Church in Fells Point and commencement exercises were to be held June 18 at the cathedral for 57 graduates. The commencement speaker was to be Wes Moore, an author, youth advocate and combat veteran. Briahna Jackson was the valedictorian and Bianca Rivera the salutatorian.
St. Frances Academy
Baltimore
A baccalaureate Mass was celebrated June 3 at the Oblate Sisters of Providence Motherhouse in Halethorpe and commencement exercises were June 4 at St. Matthew Church in Northwood for 34 graduates. The commencement speaker was Winston Wilkinson, chief of staff of the Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives. Aaron Greene was the valedictorian and Charles Thompson the salutatorian.
Institute of Notre Dame
Baltimore
A baccalaureate Mass was celebrated June 2 at St. Pius X Church in Rodgers Forge and commencement exercises were held June 5 at the cathedral for 94 graduates. Corey Fletcher was the valedictorian and Micayla Wilson the salutatorian.
The John Carroll School
Bel Air
A baccalaureate Mass was celebrated May 25 and commencement exercises were May 28, both at the Bel Air school, for 177 graduates. The commencement speaker was Edward Hopkins of the class of 1975. Claire Grunewald was the valedictorian and Madison Reed the salutatorian.
St. John’s Catholic Prep
Buckeystown
A baccalaureate Mass was celebrated May 25 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Frederick and commencement exercises were held May 26 at St. John’s Catholic Prep for 59 graduates. Finnian Mayhew was the valedictorian and Keira Mull the salutatorian.
Loyola Blakefield
Towson
A baccalaureate Mass was celebrated June 4 at the cathedral. Commencement exercises were held June 5 at the Towson school for 177 graduates. Andrew Weigman and Sam Commodari, of the class of 2016, gave the welcome address and student address, respectively.
St. Maria Goretti High School
Hagerstown
A baccalaureate Mass and commencement exercises were held May 28 at St. Ann in Hagerstown for 42 graduates. Ann Skehan was the valedictorian and John Torborg the salutatorian.
Maryvale Preparatory School
Lutherville
A baccalaureate Mass was celebrated June 2 and commencement exercises were held June 3, both at the Lutherville school, for 64 graduates. The commencement speaker was Kerry Cavanaugh, reporter for WBAL-TV and class of 1996. Gabrielle Pfeffer was the top student.
St. Mary’s High School
Annapolis
A baccalaureate Mass was celebrated May 26 at St. Mary in Annapolis and commencement exercises were held immediately after at Carroll Gardens for 138 graduates. The commencement speaker was Dr. Michael Clemmens of Anne Arundel Medical Center. Anne Hayburn was the valedictorian; Kathleen Bisson and Matthew Van Slyke were co-salutatorians.
Mercy High School
Baltimore
A baccalaureate Mass was celebrated June 5 at the Baltimore school and commencement exercises were held June 8 at the cathedral for 80 graduates. The commencement speaker was Francesca Petrosino Gamber, founding principal of Bard High School Early College Baltimore and a member of the Class of 1998.
Mount de Sales Academy
Catonsville
A baccalaureate Mass was celebrated May 25 at the Chapel of St. Francis de Sales at the Catonsville school and commencement exercises were held May 27 at the school’s music hall for 120 graduates. Elizabeth Kolb was the valedictorian and Veronica Balick the salutatorian.
Mount St. Joseph High School
Irvington
A baccalaureate Mass was celebrated June 3 at St. Louis in Clarksville and commencement exercises were held June 5 at the cathedral for 233 graduates. The commencement speaker was Matthew O’Brien, of the class of 2016.
Notre Dame Preparatory School
Towson
A baccalaureate Mass was celebrated May 24 and commencement exercises were May 25, both at the Towson school, for 125 graduates. The commencement speaker was Mary Gunning of the class of 1975, a member of the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame and director of Catholic Charities Head Start of Baltimore City. Lauren Sands was the general excellence awardee.
Our Lady of Mount Carmel School
Essex
A baccalaureate Mass was celebrated June 1 and commencement exercises were June 3, both at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, for 33 graduates. Olivia Bonner was the valedictorian and Sarah Conway (page 38) the salutatorian.
The Seton Keough High School
Baltimore
A baccalaureate Mass and commencement exercises were held May 27 at the cathedral for 52 graduates. Lauren McKernan was the valedictorian and Stephanie Saloka the salutatorian.
