Have you heard of Rory and Joey Feek?
They are country singers, husband and wife, who sing together.
They are Christians who love to share their faith, as they do in their album, Hymns & Stories That Are Important to Us, which they recently released.
But although I enjoy listening to their music—and it is lovely and powerful—I must admit that it is their personal story that has captured my attention.
One day I found my way to Rory’s blog where he shares their family’s journey. Rory has two daughters from a previous relationship, and together Joey and Rory have a beautiful 2-year-old daughter, Indiana, who has Down syndrome.
And Joey has been diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Rory’s posts often bring me to tears. They are full of faith and joy and beauty and the reality of the cross this family is carrying. I hope they are feeling wrapped in prayer on their journey.
I listened to a song on their new album for the first time, and it happened to be “Take My Hand, Precious Lord.” I’m sure I’ve heard the song many times before, but it felt so new coming from Rory and Joey, particularly as I considered that Jesus truly is holding Joey’s hand—and Rory’s too—as He leads her home.
I have been carrying this song around for the past day, but I really wanted to share it with you.
Please join me in praying for Joey and Rory and their family and all those who are navigating difficult personal journeys, particularly during this Lenten season.
