Born in Baltimore in 1922, Sister Francis Marie, one of 12 siblings, graduated from the former Seton High School in Baltimore in 1941 and entered the Daughters of Charity in 1946. She earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the former St. Joseph College in Emmitsburg.
Sister Francis Marie ministered in schools and orphanages in Virginia, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Maryland.
In the Archdiocese of Baltimore, she ministered at St. Michael the Archangel School in Overlea (1969-74 and 1982-84), the former St. Charles School in Pikesville (1974-77), Mother Seton School in Emmitsburg (1977-82) and the former St. Dominic School in Baltimore (1986-91).
Sister Francis Marie also served as a hostess at the National Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton (1991-92) and as a gift shop assistant at the shrine (1992-95).
She joined the ministry of prayer in Emmitsburg in 2003 and served there until her death. Sister Francis Marie was a Daughter of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul for 69 years.
