Five to Watch in 2016

Here are five  men and women in the Archdiocese of Baltimore who figure to have a memorable 2016. 

 

A native of Haiti, Boursiquot  becomes president-elect of the Catholic Medical Association Jan. 1, and assumes its presidency in 2017.  An internist with the MedStar group, she leads the CMA’s Baltimore Guild. She is a parishioner of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Baltimore, and serves on its Board Trust.

 

Katie Erskine

At age 25 and only two years out of Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio, Erskine will attend July’s World Youth Day in Poland as part of the archdiocesan leadership team. A full-time youth and young adult minister at St. Louis Parish in Clarksville, where she was baptized and attended the parish school, Erskine was acknowledged as an emerging leader at the 2015 Mid-Atlantic Congress for Pastoral Leadership.

 

Deacon Michael Rubeling

A fourth-year theology student at the Pontifical North American College in Rome, Deacon Rubeling will be ordained to the priesthood for the archdiocese June 25. He graduated cum laude from Providence College in Rhode Island in 2001. One of 10 siblings in a family that worships at St. Peter in Libertytown, his brothers include Peter, a college seminarian at John Paul II Seminary in  Washington, D.C.

 

Becca Meyers

A silver and bronze medalist in swimming in 2012, Meyers strives for the top of the medal podium at the September 2016 Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro. A junior at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa., she credits the parish school at St. Joseph in Cockeysville and Notre Dame Preparatory School in Towson for helping her overcome her hearing loss. She was honored as the Best Female Athlete with a Disability at the 2015 Espys.

 

Carolyn Woo

The president of Baltimore-based Catholic Relief Services heads a refugee relief effort that only figures to grow. The former dean of the University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza School of Business will be among the keynote speakers at the archdiocese- sponsored Mid-Atlantic Congress Feb. 4-6 at the Baltimore Hilton.
