The following is an excerpt from Baltimore Archbishop William E. Lori’s invocation.

Show us the path, Lord, to be builders of relationships in our state,

so that we may bring forth harmony from our diversity,

Bless our Governor as he seeks to create cooperation

among government, business, service, and the faith community, so that together,

we may create opportunity for our fellow citizens, especially our young.

Lead us, Lord, in finding ways to build trust in communities, to curb violence,

and to protect the homeless, the destitute, the infirm, and the elderly.

Give our new governor, our legislators, our judges and all those in government service

an ever greater measure of understanding

as they address the difficult problems that are facing us all.

Most of all, Lord, give us joy and hope

that we may be preserved in union and in that peace the world cannot give;

and after enjoying the blessings of this life,

be admitted to those which are eternal.

We make this prayer in Thy Holy Name. Amen.
