A funeral Mass for Franciscan Sister Regina Mary Leonard will be offered Oct. 6 at Assisi House in Aston, Pa. Sister Regina Mary died Sept. 27. She was 87.
A Baltimore native who grew up in St. Patrick Parish, Fells Point, Sister Regina Mary entered the Franciscan Sisters of Philadelphia in 1948, professing her first vows in 1951. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg and a master’s degree in religious studies from LaSalle University in Philadelphia.
In the Baltimore archdiocese, Sister Regina Mary taught at St. Paul School, Ellicott City, 1960-1961; St. Clement Mary Hofbauer School in Rosedale, 1961-64; Immaculate Conception School in Towson, 1964-71; Our Lady of Mount Carmel School in Essex, 1978-1981; and The Catholic High School of Baltimore, 1984-1985. She worked in parish ministry at St. Lawrence in Dickeyville, 1976-78, and St. Francis De Sales in Abingdon, 1986-88.
Sister Regina Mary also ministered in the Archdiocese of Washington, the Diocese of Wilmington, Del., and the Diocese of Trenton, N.J. Sister Regina Mary moved in 2009 to Assisi House in Aston, where she served in prayer ministry until her death.
