The three Catholic universities in the Archdiocese of Baltimore made the top 50 in the 2015 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s annual rankings of best colleges and universities, released Sept. 9.
Loyola University Maryland in Baltimore ranked No. 3, up from No. 5 in last year’s 2014 rankings. Mount St. Mary’s University ranked No. 19, the first time the Emmitsburg university “cracked the top 20,” according to Sept. 9 university statement. Notre Dame of Maryland University in Baltimore ranked No. 50, a jump from No. 60 last year.
All three Catholic universities in the Archdiocese of Baltimore were ranked among 135 “best regional universities” in the North division. No. 1 in the category was Villanova University in Villanova, Pa.
Loyola tied for the No. 3 position with the College of New Jersey in Ewing, N.J., and Fairfield University in Fairfield, Conn., a fellow Jesuit institution.
Mount St. Mary’s tied with three others: Le Moyne College, Syracuse, N.Y.; Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, N.Y.; and Rowan University, Glassboro, N.J.
Six universities tied with Notre Dame of Maryland for No. 50: CUNY-Hunter College, New York, N.Y.; Montclair State University, Montclair, N.J.; New York Institute of Technology, Old Westbury, N.Y.; Niagara University, Niagara University, N.Y.; and Salve Regina University in Newport, R.I.
Mount St. Mary’s also ranked No. 3 in Best Colleges for Veterans. Loyola ranked No. 15 in Best Value Schools.
