A 22-year-old parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Ellicott City died June 15 in a car accident in Richmond, Va.
According to multiple news reports, Michael Marks and a friend, Warren Kraft, were killed after their car went off the road and hit a tree. The friends played lacrosse together at McDaniel College in Westminster for one year before Kraft transferred to the University of Richmond.
Condolences left on the website of Harry H. Witzke Funeral Home in Ellicott City describe Marks as a generous, compassionate person who easily befriended others.
“He was just a very happy, fun, willing-to-do-anything-for-anybody kind of person,” Crissy Reid, Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish receptionist and a friend of the family, told the Catholic Review.
A viewing will be held June 20 from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help’s parish center. A 10:30 a.m. funeral Mass will be held at the church June 21.
Marks was a 2009 graduate of St. Vincent Pallotti High School in Laurel and a 2013 graduate of McDaniel College, where he played on the lacrosse team for four years.
Marks studied political science and international studies and planned to pursue graduate studies at American University in Washington, D.C.
Marks was the youngest child of Joseph and Barbara Marks. The family has asked for donations in his memory to be made to McDaniel College for a future Men’s Lacrosse Team scholarship.
