Kathryn J. Manion, a graduate of archdiocesan schools, is this year’s recipient of the country’s biggest student literary award.
Manion, who writes short stories, will receive Washington College’s Sophie Kerr Prize – a check for $58,274 – during Washington College’s May 20 commencement exercises.
The award has been given to a graduating senior of the Chestertown college with the greatest literary promise for the past 44 years.
Manion is a 2004 graduate of St. Louis School in Clarksville and a 2008 graduate of Notre Dame Preparatory School in Towson. Manion and her family – parents Sue and James and brother Casey – are parishioners of St. Louis, Clarksville.
She is majoring in English and minoring in creative writing and anthropology.
At NDP, Manion received a creative writing award and worked on the school’s literary magazine. At Washington College, she participated in student writing organizations and edited copy for the school’s literary magazine.
