St. Mary’s Seminary graduates 45 seminarians, lay students

St. Mary’s Seminary and University, Baltimore, celebrated the May 10 graduation of 20 men from the seminary and 35 students from its Ecumenical Institute of Theology. Among the seminary’s 20 degree recipients was Rev. Mr. Daniel Goulet, who studied for the Archdiocese of Baltimore. He will be ordained to the priesthood on June 23.

Recipients of the Ecumenical Institute’s master’s degree in theology from the Archdiocese include Mary Patricia C. Allshouse of the Catholic Community of St. Francis Xavier, Hunt Valley; Deacon Keith David Chase of Church of the Holy Apostles, Gambrills; Dr. Daniel Finkelstein of Shrine of the Sacred Heart, Mount Washington; Shannon Marie Gallivan of St. Vincent de Paul, Baltimore; Denis Vilson Guma of St. Agnes, Catonsville; Kathleen Anne Kleintank of Resurrection of Our Lord, Laurel; Dr. Joan Ellen Kub of St. Vincent de Paul, Baltimore; Ann E. LaRocque, formerly of Loyola College Chapel, Baltimore, and now living in Vermont; Brian Christopher Loughlin of St. Vincent de Paul, Baltimore; and Christine Beatrice Smith of St. John the Evangelist, Hydes.

Also receiving a master’s degree in Theology was Brother Patrick Wildgen, O.SS.T. in the Archdiocese of San Antonio. A master’s degree in church ministries was awarded to Molly Hubbard of the St. Casimir, Canton and Rita Reynolds Martin of St. Cecelia, Baltimore.

“The Ecumenical Institute is more than a place to learn about our faith,” said Deacon Chase. “It provides an environment to deepen that faith, gain appreciation of the faith experiences of others, and develop friendships within our common ministry with Christ.”

Deacon Chase said his study at the Ecumenical Institute has also given him “many tools” he uses in his diaconal ministry.

As the evening division of St. Mary’s Seminary and University, The Ecumenical Institute of Theology offers fully accredited ecumenical theological education at the graduate level to qualified women and men in the greater Baltimore area. In addition to the two master’s degrees, the Ecumenical Institute offers graduate-level certificates, a post-master’s certificate for clergy and others, and a variety of classes for credit or for audit.
