More than 100 Catholic Daughters of the Americas from various courts throughout Maryland convened Sept. 27 for the Maryland State Court 2008 Fall Conference.
“Women of faith making a difference” was the theme for the meeting at St. Francis Xavier in Baltimore, which was hosted by Court Francis Xavier, Irma Bevans, regent.
Father Edward M. Miller, pastor of St. Bernardine, Baltimore, and state chaplain for the Catholic Daughters, addressed the conference with reflections on trust being the foundation of any organization.
Certificates were awarded for work in programs that are the core of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas: leadership, spiritual enhancement, quality of life, legislation, youth, education and national charitable projects.
Jackie Crizer, regent, Court Our Lady of Perpetual Help, was awarded Maryland Catholic Daughter of the Year.
Susan Drasal, regent, Court Infant Jesus of Prague, for the Maryland State Court Habitat for Humanity, will pursue CDA’s reality of building a habitat home in Maryland.
Debbie Lattus, chair of the Father Henry Hughes Scholarship program, presented certificates to sponsoring courts for 10 recipients who entered Catholic high schools this fall. Ten $500 checks were mailed to the appropriate Catholic high schools.
Because of the success of leadership chair Lucretia Coates, 81 new members will be recognized and welcomed Oct. 12 at St. Bernardine.
