Good Samaritan goes tobacco free

The campus of Good Samaritan Hospital, Baltimore, a member of MedStar Health, Inc., is tobacco-free effective Nov. 20. In an effort to be a model of healthy behavior, and for the safety and well-being of patients, employees and visitors, tobacco products have been banned from all MedStar locations on a date coinciding with the national Great American Smokeout sponsored by the American Cancer Society.

“We take all health issues seriously,” said Michael Curran, executive vice president and chief financial officer. “Our region has high cancer rates and MedStar has the opportunity to partner with the individuals we serve to create a healthier environment.”

The policy applies to everyone on MedStar hospital campuses, medical office buildings, physician offices and other locations owned, leased or rented by MedStar and its subsidiaries.

Mr. Curran said the hospital will work together to support individuals they serve who decide to quit using tobacco.

Smoking cessation classes are offered in the Good Health Center; call 443-444-4100 for more information.
