On March 24, 2025, Baltimore County announced that William “Bill” Mannion was arrested and charged with second degree child abuse and multiple sex offenses. Mannion, a former priest, left ministry in May of 1998 and his priestly faculties, or ability to act publicly as a priest, were removed for reasons unrelated to child abuse. He requested to be formally removed from the clerical state (laicized) by the Vatican. He was laicized in 2004. He would later marry and have a family. Mannion was ordained in 1989 and was assigned to St. Anthony of Padua Church from 1989 to 1994 and St. Agnes Church from 1994 to 1998. The Archdiocese of Baltimore is saddened to learn of any allegations of abuse and cooperates fully with law enforcement. The Archdiocese of Baltimore is committed to protecting children and helping to heal victims of abuse. We urge anyone who has knowledge of any child sexual abuse to report it immediately to law enforcement (call 911 or your local Department of Social Services office, see https://dhs.maryland.gov/child-protective-services/reporting-suspected-child-abuse-or-neglect/). If clergy or other church personnel is suspected of committing the abuse, we ask that you also call the Archdiocese’s Office of Child and Youth Protection at (866) 417-7469.
