Dear Friends in Christ,
On this Thanksgiving Day, as you gather with family and friends, I want to wish you God’s choicest blessings.
Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday. It is an opportunity for us to give thanks to the Lord for the blessings he has showered upon our land and for the blessings we have experienced in our families and in our network of relationships. It is an opportunity to express our appreciation for those with whom we live and work.
Joy and thankfulness travel together. When we give thanks to God for the many ways he has blessed us, we experience inner happiness. We can even come to see our problems and challenges as blessings, for as St. Paul said, “All things work together for the good of those who love him” (Rom 8:28).
Thankfulness for our blessings also makes more room in our hearts for those who are in need and prompts us to reach out in love.
Above all, we thank the Lord whose love for us so great that it could not be better. For this greatest of all blessings – that God has loved us and sent his Son as our Redeemer – let us give God thanks and praise. Happy Thanksgiving!
Faithfully in Christ,
Most Reverend William E. Lori
Archbishop of Baltimore
