The Loyola School and St. Ignatius Catholic Community invite you to a day of fun and festivities at their Community Block Party Sunday, Oct. 20, adjacent to the church and school. The school’s staff, students and families will join parish members and their Mount Vernon neighbors to become better acquainted and to explore community resources.

There will be music, children’s activities, community service booths and food vendors. Attendees will be able to learn more about the new Loyola elementary school for kindergarten through 4th grade and the state-of-the-art building that will be opening this fall. The free block party is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Madison Street between Calvert and St. Paul streets.

“We have an opportunity to expand our connections with Baltimore City families in need of education resources for their children,” said Rev. William J. Watters, S.J., president emeritus of The Loyola School. “More importantly, we have a chance to connect entire families to many Baltimore City resources, all while engaging them in a fun community event.”

Among the community resources on display will be Our Daily Bread Ministries; St. Francis Neighborhood Center; Gabriel Network, support for pregnant women and new mothers; mental health services from Maryland Coalition for Families and Ase` Therapy and Services; The Resource Center (TRE) at St. Vincent de Paul Church; and The Flowers Whiting Initiative, which works to break the cycle of incarceration and recidivism while building strong communities.

LifeBridge Health and Grace Medical Center Community Outreach will offer free blood pressure screenings and share information on treatment of chronic diseases.

Paul the Face Painter will provide his artistry to children and adults; there will be other arts and crafts; music and dancing with DJ ChuckSpinz, raffles, giveaways, and a variety of food for purchase.

The Block Party is a great opportunity to get acquainted with The Loyola School and others from the church and neighborhood. Come out and meet — or make — a friend!

Founded in 2017, The Loyola School is an independent, scholarship-based school for Baltimore City children from families of limited financial means. This year, 121 children are enrolled in pre-K-2 through third grade; fourth grade will be added in 2025-2026.
