Mass for couples wanting children set for Oct. 22

Not long after The Catholic Review published a story this summer about devotion to the Infant of Prague, Dr. Michael Cataldo started receiving letters from couples looking for divine assistance in having children.

Devotion to the Infant of Prague has long been associated with helping married couples become pregnant, and the founder of the Baltimore-based Society of the Infant of Jesus was fielding prayer requests for that intention.

“By a factor of two or three, that was the dominant reason people were writing,” said Cataldo, noting that his society received more than 20 letters. “We wanted to do something to help them.”

Help is on the way in the form of a special 10 a.m. Mass that will be held at St. Paul in Ellicott City Oct. 22. A statue of the Infant of Prague will be displayed and prayers will be offered for those seeking to have children. Oct. 22 is also the Feast of Blessed Pope John Paul II.

Carmelite Father Anastasio Roggero, the priest who shepherds the Church of Our Lady Victorious in the Czech Republic where the Infant of Prague statue is located, will offer Mass for Baltimore couples that same day. So will priests of the Shrine to the Infant of Prague in Arenzano, Italy.
