St. Agnes Catholic School will hold its annual May Procession on Friday, May 13 starting at 8:45 a.m. All the school children will process around the school and church grounds while reciting the Rosary. Mass will then follow in the church starting at 9:00 a.m. and ending with the crowning of Mary. Grade 8 girls and boys will be in the May Court with the May Queen who will crown Mary.
The second grade students, who have just made their First Holy Communion on May 7th, are part of the May Court. School families have been invited and will bring flowers to honor Mary.
The placement of a floral wreath on the head of a statue of Mary (known as a May crowning) is a well-known Catholic tradition honoring Mary as the Queen of Heaven and the Mother of God. All Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Baltimore participate in a May crowning as a reflection of our Catholic identity, the defining characteristic of the Catholic school system.
