First Montessori Program in the Archdiocese Starts in Fall 2011; Ribbon Cutting Friday

St. Pius X School in Rodgers Forge will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of its new Montessori Program on Friday, August 26 at 10 a.m. at the school, located at 6432 York Road 21212

In May 2010, Archbishop O’Brien announced that St. Pius X was chosen to be the first school in the Archdiocese to provide a Montessori program. This program, developed by an Italian physician, Dr. Maria Montessori, in 1907 allows children to learn at a more individualized pace by focusing on the human aspects of development—intellectual, social, emotional, physical, and spiritual—to make learning exciting and interesting.

St. Pius X is partnering with Loyola University Maryland, which has one of the premiere Montessori graduate programs in the United States.

“St Pius X School is extremely excited to be the first Catholic school in the Archdiocese to offer this innovative program,” said Principal, Mrs. Maggie Dates. “The school is a dynamic educational environment and this additional program will be very attractive to many families.”

The school has a few remaining openings in the pre-k 3 and pre-k 4 Montessori programs. For more information, visit www.stpius10school.org or contact Maggie Dates at MDates@stpiusxschoolbaltimore.com
