Statement Regarding the Death of Sylvia “Cookie” Harris

Archbishop William E. Lori, on behalf of the clergy and lay faithful of the Archdiocese of Baltimore, extends his prayers to Congressman Andy Harris and the entire Harris family for the repose of the soul of Sylvia “Cookie” Harris.

Mrs. Harris was a longtime volunteer supporter of Catholic, pro-life causes, serving on the Archdiocesan Respect Life Committee and on the Board of Directors of Pregnancy Center North, a crisis pregnancy center for women who wish to carry their babies to term. Mrs. Harris also served as a peer counselor to Spanish-speaking women at the Center and spoke to 8th grade Catholic school students about the sanctity of human life.

“Mrs. Harris was a tireless supporter of life and fully dedicated herself to the belief that all human life is sacred,” Archbishop Lori said. “Though her death is a tremendous loss, especially to those in the pro-life community, her legacy will continue to live on in the countless lives she not only touched, but possibly saved, through her efforts to build a culture of life in the Archdiocese of Baltimore.”
