Seven hundred and fifty Catholic young people will join Archbishop William Lori in an annual Palm Sunday weekend pilgrimage through Baltimore on Saturday, March 28th to mark the start of Holy Week.
Following an 10:15 a.m. rally at the Basilica, the procession of young people will depart at 12:30 p.m. with the pilgrims carrying a 10-foot wooden cross along a three-mile route with stops at the War Memorial Plaza, Cristo Rey High School and Holy Rosary Parish. The day will conclude with liturgy at St. Casmir’s in Canton.
The idea for a youth pilgrimage originated from World Youth Day in Denver in 1993, which also featured a pilgrimage with young Catholics carrying a large wooden cross.
The pilgrimage will take place RAIN or SHINE and will adhere to the following schedule:
9:00 | Registration opens – St. Mary’s Park, Paca Street |
10:15 | Rally begins at St. Mary’s Park |
10:50 | Archbishop Lori addresses the youths and young adults before they process to the Basilica for Eucharistic adoration** |
12:30 | Begin Pilgrimage Walk with a quick stop at the War Memorial Plaza |
1:45 | Concert at Cristo Rey High School/ Stations of the Cross at Holy Rosary Church |
3:55 | Begin walk to St. Casmir’s in Canton |
4:50 | Arrive at St. Casmirs |
5:00 | Parish Liturgy begins with Archbishop |

** Archbishop Lori will carry the cross with young Catholics immediately following the conclusion of the rally. |
